Oral/Oropharyngeal Cancer Screening: What’s Changed? What’s New?

How does an infection transform into a malignancy? Who is at risk? All these questions and many more will be answered in a frank, open discussion complemented by a guided visual gallery.

Lecture Synopsis:

Now is the time to look at evaluating your current practices making certain they are updated and compliant with the needs of today’s population. Historically the vulnerable populations were those who used tobacco and alcohol. This is no longer the case. We are living in a VIRAL world with the fastest growing profile or oral and in particular, oropharyngeal cancer, being attributed to a very common virus.

Please Note: The ADA has amended their policy on early detection and prevention of oral cancer to include oropharyngeal cancer and cover all patients, not just those previously thought to be at an increased risk because of tobacco and alcohol use. What are the implications to dentistry and how should our oral cancer screening be adjusted to compensate for this new profile? How is the virus transmitted and once an infection becomes active, will it ever go away? How does an infection transform into a malignancy? Who is at risk? All these questions and many more will be answered in a frank, open discussion complemented by a guided visual gallery.
